Abstract
Syncope is a common complaint evaluated in the emergency department (ED). Differentials for syncope include cardiac and neurological etiologies. A 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) can help identify possible cardiac etiologies for the syncopal episode. Brugada syndrome falls under cardiovascular etiologies for syncope. This syndrome has specific ECG findings such as coved or saddleback ST-segment morphology and elevation with normal QRS width, although they may vary by subtype. Prompt identification of Brugada and cardiology evaluation are essential steps to help prevent life-threatening arrhythmias. Nurse practitioners in the ED must accurately identify signs, symptoms, risk factors, and ECG findings associated with Brugada syndrome. (c) 2022 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
