Abstract
Pirate Source is an application developed by Joyner Library at East Carolina University to help libraries manage the organization and display of materials that otherwise might be put in a pathfinder or subject guide. The source code is made available for others to download, install, and modify, and thus it may be described as "open source." Open source applications have particular appeal to smaller libraries with limited resources. This article will discuss the steps necessary in implementing an open source product, using Pirate Source as the example.
