Abstract

type 1 diabetes islet transplantation bioscaffold oxygen
In article number 1902463, Avnesh S. Thakor and co‐workers design a macroporous collagen‐based cryogel bioscaffold that can accommodate transplanted pancreatic islets. Calcium peroxide, which generates a steady supply of oxygen, is then incorporated into the matrix of this bioscaffold. This clinically translatable platform improves the function and viability of transplanted islets until they can establish a new blood supply, and hence their own source of oxygen, following transplantation.
