Abstract
The reaction of Ru.sub.3(CO).sub.12 with Pt(IPr)(SnBu.sup.t .sub.3)(H) at 68 [degrees]C yielded the trigonal bipyramidal cluster [Ru.sub.3]Pt.sub.2(IPr).sub.2(CO).sub.12, 1, in 32% yield. The reaction of Os.sub.3(CO).sub.12 with Pt(IPr)(SnBu.sup.t .sub.3)(H) at 68 [degrees]C furnished the triosmium--monoplatinum cluster complex [Os.sub.3]Pt(IPr)(CO).sub.12, 2, in 51% yield and the triosmium--diplatinum cluster complex [Os.sub.3]Pt.sub.2(IPr).sub.2(CO).sub.12, 3, in 19% yield. The reaction of Fe.sub.3(CO).sub.12 with Pt(IPr)(SnBu.sup.t .sub.3)(H) at room temperature resulted in cluster fragmentation to afford the diiron--monoplatinum cluster complex [Fe.sub.2]Pt(IPr)(CO).sub.9, 4, in 44% yield. All four compounds were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.
