Abstract
Children with open physeal plates are more susceptible to growth plate injuries and avulsion fractures rather than the ligament and muscle-tendon injuries that most often occur in adults. The basic anatomy and function of skeletal muscle are reviewed, followed by a discussion of the pathophysiology and treatment of muscle- tendon injuries in the pediatric athlete.
