Abstract
PACS technologies, which have been led by the high demands of radiology, are now being applied to other image data generating and using specialities. Conversely the way in which non-radiological clinical specialists wish to actively use radiological images in their developing clinical practices is a challenge which will lead to some perceptive changes in radiology. This paper gives a brief overview of this rapidly developing situation and discusses the role of radiology in the imaging continuum which is emerging.
