Abstract
At this time program evaluation is coming to be viewed as an important enterprise in the field of drug treatment. Because of this, the management of drug programs is scrambling to collect numerous types of information that were never before collected in a systematic mattern. As a result of this increased information demand, program managers must search for efficient methods for collecting, storing, and utilizing the information that is required to make programmatic evaluations. The management information system (MIS), therefore, is coming to be viewed as something that is needed to handle the data that must be generated to meet this increased information demand. It is coming to be believed that the MIS will allow information to be processed in a manner that was never before possible. This may be true, yet the program manager must take care to ensure that a MIS is properly installed, or the resulting information system will prove to be of little or no benefit to a program's overall operation.
