Abstract
Anthropogenic climate change has negative effects on the environment, such as rising ocean temperatures, and changes in ocean pH levels. Some aquatic organisms are more susceptible than others to these changes in the climate, such as the salmon species in the Pacific Northwest. Due to salmon species’ susceptibility and their economic and ecological importance in this region, conservation efforts from Federal and State organizations will help keep salmon populations around for years to. The Washington Department of fish and Wildlife deploys creel samplers to interview fishers to collect data for conservation efforts as well as fishing regulations. This data along with the average ocean temperature for 2013 to 2022 show that in general change in ocean temperature is not affecting the total numbers of salmon caught by recreational fishers.
