Abstract
Located in the upper mid-west of the United States, the state of Michigan is vulnerable to a variety of natural hazards due to its varied geography. Aftermaths hazards can appear and turn into disasters such as polluted clean water, loss of electricity, and collapsed infrastructure.
Furthermore, the hazards that factor into disaster preparedness differ greatly between the communities within the state. Unfortunately, areas of Michigan, especially low-income residential areas, were not equipped with hazard preparedness and response plans. This project goal was to create a hazard mitigation guide for erosion and clean water management to aid Michigan communities in creating their own based on their risk factors. The process of compiling information for mitigation plans is a step towards decreasing communities’ hazard risk and promoting unity.
