Expertise
Utilizing a transgenic mouse model of prostate cancer to better understand the molecular events in prostate carcinogenesis and for preclinical testing of new therapies, investigating the molecular mechanisms of the anti-cancer chemotherapeutic agent 2-methoxyestradiol, including cell cycle arrest and apoptosis.
Dr. Perez-Stable's research aims to 1) Determine if deubiquitinase inhibitors that reduce expression of androgen receptor (AR) improves sensitivity to AR antagonists such as enzalutadmide in prostate cancer therapy; and 2) Determine if the combination of cyclophilin and proteasome inhibitors amplifies proteotoxic stress, overwhelms pro-survival pathways, and forces cancer cells toward apoptotic cell death without harming normal cells.
