Epigenetic regulation in normal and malignant hematopoiesis. Our research focuses on one family of histone modifying enzymes: the protein arginine methyltransferases, which catalyze the symmetric or asymmetric di-methylation of arginine residues in histone and non-histone proteins. We evaluate the function of these methyltransferases and determine whether targeting these enzymes with small molecule inhibitors could be a potential treatment option for hematopoietic malignancies.
