Expertise

Beal collects and uses in situ observations of the ocean from moored, profiling, shipboard, and drifting instrumentation to measure its fluxes and variability. Instrumentation includes acoustic current meters and current profilers, CTDs and profiling Argo floats which measure temperature and salinity, inverted echo- sounders which provide a bulk measure of the properties of the water column, and surface drifters. She uses satellite data and models to help understand the wider context of these measurements in terms of global ocean circulation and climate.
