Expertise

His current interests include Psycho-oncology, AIDS and psychoneuroiminunology: coping styles, social support, life event stress, and health/disease.

My research interests within the field of behavioral medicine/health psychology are focused in psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) particularly as it applies to certain human cancers and viral infections such as HIV-1 infection. Most of my work centers on delineating PNI mechanisms underlying the associations between stressors and stress reduction on the one hand and immune and endocrine system changes and physical disease course on the other, in the context of persons dealing with immune-mediated diseases such as certain cancers, HIV/AIDS, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Dr. Antoni's lab examines stress, coping, and health outcomes and showed stress management intervention effects on psychological adaptation, biobehavioral processes (neuroendocrine, inflammation), and health outcomes in multiple NIH randomized trials in breast cancer, prostate cancer, HIV/AIDS and chronic fatigue.
