Her research in inflammatory bowel disease focuses on identifying the etiologic contributions of genetic and environmental factors in the development of IBD in immigrant Hispanics.

She also examines dietary changes that take place in Hispanics as a result of acculturation and immigration into the US with the goal to ultimately identify key dietary triggers that may play a role in disease onset.

Dr. Damas is also involved in several other research projects, including determining what are the barriers to preventive health prescription and delivery in IBD patients.
