Dr. Verdun's lab concentrates on the understanding of the mechanisms used by human cells to maintain genome stability. Maintenance of genome stability depends on appropriate responses to DNA damage. Inadequate response and repair of DNA lesions result in an accumulation of chromosomes aberrations, genome instability, and finally cell death or even cell transformation. His team studies telomeres, the natural ends of our chromosomes, and antibody class switch recombination as model systems to understand how the different DNA repair mechanisms maintain genome stability.
