Richard John's research, teaching and publications focus on the theory and practice of the classical tradition, both historical and contemporary.

John's current research focuses on the paideia of Early Modern European architects, in particular the sources and influence of James Gibbs’ Rules for Drawing (1732). place-making and sustainable urbanism.
