Dr. Siyuan Wang is an associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the Rosenstiel School at the University of Miami. Prior to joining the U, Dr. Wang was a research scientist at the Cooperative Institute for Research In Environmental Sciences (CIRES) working at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)/Chemical Sciences Laboratory. Dr. Wang uses advanced global and regional models, combined with a variety of observations (including satellite and aircraft), to study the chemical and physical processes in the atmosphere and their broader impacts on air quality and climate. One key area of research in Dr. Wang’s group is the representation of aerosol processes in Earth system models, with a major focus on wildfire smoke and its impact on weather and climate. Dr. Wang is also interested in applying novel techniques (e.g. artificial intelligence/machine learning) in Earth system science research.
