Cellular and Neuronal Circuit Alterations after Traumatic Brian Injury That Contribute to Cognitive Decline and Epilepsy.

My laboratory is conducting electrophysiological assessments of neuron and brain circuit alterations that occur after traumatic brain injury.

We are trying to understand how circuits in the brain change over time after injury and how these changes might lead to alterations of brain function and behavior.

My laboratory currently is examining the neural substrates underlying cognitive defects and the development of epilepsy after traumatic brain injury. We use electrophysiological techniques to monitor changes in hippocampal synaptic plasticity after injury both in vitro and in vivo. To study post-traumatic epileptogenesis, we use cortical electrocorticography and video analysis to detect both convulsive and non-convulsive seizures after brain trauma.
